I am The Tower of London's Poet in Residence and throughout the year, I will be curating: CONFESSIONS — a new strand of performances designed for adult audiences. For each show, key themes are pulled out of events that occurred in the Tower’s 1,000 year history and contemporary poets and performers will create new pieces of in response. This is an opportunity to showcase stories and characters from history, to reframe and examine common, human themes that still resonate today.
This event’s theme is POWER. It will be held in the Medieval Palace at the Tower of London. and will feature newly commissioned and a selection of older pieces of work from: Bridget Minnamore, Bidisha and Imogen Butler-Cole.
Bidisha is a British writer, film-maker and presenter for tv and radio, a trustee of the Booker Prize Foundation, looking after the UK's most prestigious prizes for literature in English and in translation. . She is chair of judges for the 2018 Forward Prizes for poetry. Her fifth and most recent book is Asylum and Exile: Hidden Voices of London based on her outreach work with ayslum seekers and refugees.
Imogen Butler-Cole is an award-winning actor and theatre maker. Current projects include touring her solo play Foreign Body (Soho Theatre, Southbank Centre, VAULT Festival) and directing Nina Millns’ Delete (RADA Festival). Imogen campaigns against sexual violence alongside On Road Media and trains business professionals in communication for RADA in Business and The Old Vic.
Bridget Minamore is a British-Ghanaian writer from south-east London. She is a poet, essayist, and journalist, often writing about pop culture, theatre, race and class. Titanic (Out-Spoken Press), her debut pamphlet of poems on modern love and loss, was published in May 2016.
